A ‘Frozen’-Inspired Family Vacation in Finland

When ‘Frozen’ was released back in 2013, my nieces were suddenly clamoring to go reindeer sledding and sleep in an igloo. Finally, last spring break—motivated by Scandinavian Airlines’ annual Kids Fly Free deal to Scandinavia—we booked a big family vacation to Finland to see if we could bring some of the Frozen fantasies to life for a gaggle of Florida girls used to beaches and boats.

Together with my two toddlers and four nieces, my sister and I planned a vacation that turned out to be more affordable than if we’d flown everyone from Tampa to, say, Telluride, to ski out west. It helped, of course, that five out of our six cumulative kids were 11 and under and were flying virtually free—paying taxes only from Miami to Helsinki, thanks to the SAS deal.
